Estes Earns Safety Awards From ATA’s Safety Management Council
RICHMOND, VA—Estes Express Lines earned four awards in the 2012 American Trucking Associations’ (ATA) National Truck Safety Contest held by the organization’s Safety Management Council. The award was presented at the 2012 Safety & Human Resources National Conference & Exhibition in mid-September.
Estes placed first in the General Commodities LTL Division for companies with over 5,000 employees and second in the General Commodities LTL/Local Division for companies that travel more than 100 million miles. The company’s western region, Estes West, placed second in the General Commodities LTL Division for companies that have between 1,001 and 5,000 employees and also placed second in the General Commodities LTL/Local Division for carriers who log 10–50 million miles.
The ATA’s safety contest evaluates carriers throughout the United States and Canada on their safety accomplishments and records relative to others within their operation type and size. Participants must submit data in accordance with the ATA’s Trucking Industry Guidelines for Recording Fleet Vehicle Accidents and Determining Preventability. The Safety Management Council audits the data and ranks the companies according to their safety records.
“These are awards that we should all be proud of receiving,” said Curtis Carr, vice president of safety and risk management, Estes Express Lines. “They show that we are doing a great job when compared to our peers. However, we do not need to rest on our laurels. We need to continually strive to raise the bar and do our jobs in the safest manner possible. This will keep Estes a strong and profitable company in these uncertain economic times and allow us to ensure that all of our employees make it home safely on a daily basis.”
